Best Ever Play Dough
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon oil
Food coloring (I used Wilton paste coloring)
In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, cream of tartar, water, vanilla, oil, and food coloring together until smooth. Pour mixture into a warm Teflon pan, stirring constantly. When the dough lumps toward the center of the pan and completely breaks away from the sides of the pan, it is ready. Cool; then knead 10 to 12 times. Store in tightly covered container.
After the wet ingredients were added, the mixture had to be stirred until the lumps were smooth.
After pouring the mixture in the warm Teflon pan it was transformed into play dough in just a matter of minutes.
Landon borrowed my pastry roller to make “cookies”.
We also made a batch of yellow play dough.
This play dough recipe was really easy and quick to make. The clean up was also fast with no mess. I suspect we’ll be making some additional colors next week.

I know Landon had a great time with your special play dough! What a cutie he is!! I need to get one of those Mr. Potato Head kits. I remember when I had one of those & used a real potato!!!!

When I taught pre-school, I made this play-dough often and for my daughters when they were young. It is so cheap and makes less mess than the commercial kind. Thanks for giving us the recipe. I should make some for my great nephews with the flour that I need to get rid of (too old to use for baking).

Hi Anita – Thanks for recommending using a Teflon® non-stick pan while making your Best Ever Play Dough. It looks like a ton of fun to make and play with! I represent DuPont and it's always a pleasure to see people recommending our products in their recipes.
If you are interested in some other recipes or great cookbooks to look at for your blog, drop me an email and I would be glad to help you out! Thanks. Cheers, Sara

Anita- you don't know how I've been LOOKING everywhere for an easy play dough recipe to make with my three year old. I've implemented a four-day work week at the office (off Fridays) and am always trying to think of new fun things we can do together on my day off. Thanks!
