Recently I used buttons for a craft project to make fashion rings, and I have learned that both new and vintage buttons are used in many different ways for other crafts. One easy way to utilize pretty buttons is to make hair accessories.
To make these hair accessories you need buttons with a shank on the back, then either hair bands or bobby pins.
To make the hair band with the button adornment, slip the hair band through the shank on the back. The thinner hair bands are easier to pull through the shank. Work the band carefully through the tiny opening.
Then I used a safety pin to pull the band through the shank.
Pull it through far enough that there is a loop on both ends.
Then loop one end over the other to secure the band onto the button.
The pretty hair band is finished!
The bobby pins are even easier! Just slip the shank of the button over the bobby pin and pull it to the end.
The shank will have a lot of wiggle room on the end of the bobby pin, so to hold it securely just fill the hole of the button’s shank with a drop of hot glue.
There are so many button options to make unique hair accessories. I have seen such adorable children’s buttons that would make a one of a kind or personalized accessory for a child’s outfit. I’m going to be on the lookout for more pretty and interesting buttons for future craft projects.

These are awesome! What a creative way to dress up sunci hairbands. Mine are often on my wrist when not in my hair so a little adornment would serve a double purpose!
What a cute idea! I wear bobby pins in my hair every day as I wear my hair up and a couple of those would look nice. I also have all kinds of buttons so I wouldn't even have to buy anything!

Hi Anita, I have used buttons for many things but this is a great idea!! I especially love the hair tie looped through–so easy!!!! My daughter always has something in her hair and this will be an excellent idea for her. Linda
